...the reason I like seeing wrestlers outside of the ring and in films is I still know it's fake but it actually looks real.
Well, maybe real·ish.
2:53 PM 6/25/08 · I'm not sure if the particular theme of this movie has been used before. In a world where it seems they keep remaking the same things over and over again, even when that yields great entertainment, I pray to find something original. I mean, I could site a few films offhand where the worst prisoners in the world were dropped on an island. As far as killer game shows, all I've got in the memory is
The Running Man.
Still, I can't think of another one I've seen where both were used.
Certainly nothing this amazing!
The director wanted the fight scenes of
The Condemned to be as realistic as possible and stuntwork done by the actors as much as possible. Richard Norton, who you may remember from martial arts films a decade or so back, is the main fight coordinator and he did a beautiful job. Even Steve Austin, an impressive wrestler who may be harboring a
Six Million Dollar Man fetish, had to learn entirely new ways of fighting but was very up for it just for the challenge of it. He also slimmed down considerably, apparently wrestling calls for more body fat...
...and, on a note that may be surprising to a lot of his fans, he was ever so slightly intimidated by being around so many martial artists. Kinda makes me like the guy even more.
I don't like wrestling.
Not as many issues with the actual performers.
While it may be there is a distinction between what makes for a good movie and a movie I enjoy...I really enjoyed this!
The DVD doesn't have any bloopers, per se, but it does have a behind the scenes mischief section where the actors were just having a bit too much fun when not on camera.
